Listen to Famous Speeches for Practicing your Accent

A wonderful way to work on improving your accent is to listen to famous speeches. I found this great website which contains hundreds of famous speeches. You can hear the audio and sometimes see the video of the speech. The best part is that each speech has a transcript with it. That way, you can practice reading it out loud.

I recommend that you listen to the whole speech several times while reading it. That way you can learn the pronunciation of some new words. Then, I recommend that you listen again, clicking on pause after some short phrases. Try to repeat the rhythm and intonation of the speaker. Pay attention to how the speaker is linking words together.

This website includes all of Obama's major speeches and speeches from some classic American films. It can be a fun way to practice. Enjoy!!

(To learn all the rules of linking, rhythm and intonation, I recommend that you purchase "The American Accent Course:50 Rules You Must Know" available at: accurateenglish.com/dvd's.htm)

hi! this is very helpful. i have a copy of your book it is so amazing! I wish you could hear how i improve my accent. you know what? as i was having my presentation in my economics subject, the topic was change to American accent! My prof said I have an Accent and if she going to close her eyes she might think that I was an american talking to them.. She asked me what my secrete i said, I bought a " mastering the american accent" by you and American accent training by ann cook. I love the way I'm talking right now and it was largely because of you. I'm still having difficulty with my Spoken English. I wonder why i'm good at writing . actually my prof said I am but i can't pass a job interview because of my English oral fluency it was weak! I found the latest book of Ann cook the American accent training with focus on grammar. I thought you might have one too or something that could recommend, book site or whatever great way to master English oral fluency. I'm already college and i have a very perfectionist prof who set very high standard in presentation and every thing. help!
